Tom Brady is arguably the best quarterback to ever play in the NFL, so when he speaks, millions of fans listen.

Recently, speaking on his Let’s Go! SiriusXM show (and podcast), Brady sounded the alarm about the future of America’s most famous league.

“Football is a physical sport, there’s a physical element to all of this,” Brady said. “You throw a 15-yard flag for something that, you know, 20 years ago maybe wouldn’t have had a flag. That affects the game in a big way.”

These are somewhat ironic words coming from Brady, who was one of the most protected quarterbacks by the rules—especially later in his career. But there is no question that, earlier in his career, the rules surrounding the physicality of the game weren’t as rigid.

“There’s so many people that want it less and less physical, it’s more like flag football,” Brady continued. “Maybe football goes to flag football over a period of time.”

It’s hard to envision the NFL ever going to flag football, even though that form of the sport recently got ordained by the Olympics.

But Brady has seen the game change as much as anyone, so maybe he’s right. Who are we to doubt the GOAT?
