Former United States President Donald Trump has made it clear that he does not intend to participate in any of the GOP debates this election cycle as he continues to poll far ahead of any other competitor. But it sounds like the big guns at Fox News came all the way out to his golf resort to try to change his mind.

According to a report from the New York Times earlier this month, Fox News executives like President Jay Wallace and CEO Suzanne Scott traveled to Bedminster, New Jersey, to dine with Donald Trump at his golf resort and attempt to persuade him to participate in the debates hosted by Trump.

It seems like quite a shocking move from the Fox News executives to woo a candidate like that, but during a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, host Martha MacCallum defended the network’s decision.

“I don’t think there’s anything unusual about executives interacting with top-level candidates,” MacCallum told The Wall Street Journal. “You want to make sure that you have an open line of communication and that everyone feels that they’re welcome and you want them on the stage.”

Ethical or not, it’s clear that Fox News wants Trump to participate in the debates. After all, it’s no secret that he brings big ratings.
