Former United States President Donald Trump was just indicted on 37 different federal counts, but that didn’t stop him from taking to the podium in North Carolina to give his thoughts on transgender female athletes participating in women’s sports.
During a speech at the North Carolina Republican Party’s convention in Greensboro, Donald Trump sent a clear message to transgender female athletes, calling them “men” throughout his speech. Trump promised that if he is elected president in 2024, he will ban them from women’s sports.
“I will keep men out of women’s sports,” Trump told the crowd as he made a weightlifting motion with his arms, generating loud applause, according to Fox News.
The former president claimed that as a result of transgender women participating in women’s sports, longstanding athletics records are now being “obliterated.” Trump specifically referenced the sport of competitive weightlifting.
“Then a guy comes along. Bingo!” Trump said, lifting an imaginary weight with his hands. “But you know what, honestly, it’s really demeaning to women.”
Trump then shifted to the sport of swimming, where he joked that women are getting “badly injured” by “windburn” from how fast the transgender woman is swimming next to them.
“Some women are being badly injured by the windburn that’s caused by the man going so much faster,” said Trump. “The wind is blowing. It’s just terrible. It’s so unfair.”
It’s no secret where Trump stands on the transgender sports debate.
