Kevin Durant and Draymond Green dominated the NBA news cycle last week when the two got into a post-game incident leading to the latter being suspended for a game. With all the drama in Golden State this season, it’s a fair question to ask whether it’ll affect star forward Kevin Durant’s upcoming free agency. According to KD himself, it won’t.
Durant spoke to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, where he admitted the incident wouldn’t factor in his free agent decision.
“Nah, [it won’t factor],” Durant told Yahoo Sports reporter Chris Haynes. “Because at the end of the day, I’m just a ballplayer that’s just trying to be in a great environment to play basketball and groom my skills every day. And I want to compete on a level that once the game starts, I’m just totally comfortable with my surroundings, with just going out there and being me.”
The remarks should provide some comfort to Warriors fans, although, I highly doubt Durant would admit the incident would factor in his upcoming decision. I’d take these comments with a grain of salt.
Ultimately, he’s got a good situation in Golden State, but if Durant wants to make more money or try to win a championship somewhere else, it’s not farfetched to suggest he’ll leave the organization after this season. Whether Green ultimately impacts the decision remains to be seen.
