‘The Conners’ will live on. The same can’t be said for the titular character the ABC show is spinning off.
John Goodman, who played Dan on ‘Roseanne’ and will assume the same role on the spinoff, admitted, to Deadline Roseanne Barr’s character will be “sad” because “his wife’s dead.”
“It’s an unknown. I guess he’ll be mopey and sad because his wife’s dead.”
ABC brought back the 90’s sitcom Roseanne earlier this year, picking up huge ratings for the network. The revival was canceled abruptly, following star Roseanne Barr’s racist tweets about former Obama adviser Valerie Jerrett. Since the show was a hit, ABC created ‘The Conners’ to keep the momentum going while shedding themselves of Roseanne entirely.
There’s been no confirmation from the network whether Goodman’s words are in the plans, but considering how close to production the veteran actor is and how killing off the character would serve the story perfectly, the move would fit.
Ripping off the band-aid – in this case, Roseanne Barr – and starting fresh with the Conner’s as a grieving family is a right move. If the Roseanne universe was ever going to continue, she couldn’t be a part of it at all. I expect the show to remain the hit ‘Roseanne’ was.
