The incredible website Football Outsiders recently conducted a reader poll to assess the NFL draft. It’s good stuff, and you can check it out here.
The best part of the article is the end, where Aaron Schatz, the site’s founder, discusses some reader-submitted suggestions for the Detroit Lions’ beastly defensive line, which now features Ndamukong Suh, Nick Fairley, Kyle Vanden Bosch, and Cliff Avril:
Some of the more unique suggestions included Ate Mile, Detroit 1-8-7 (a great TV show, by the way), the Fearsome Fordsome, Hitsville USA (an old nickname for Motown Records), the Jim Schwartz Blues Explosion, The Arsenal of Democracy (an actual WWII nickname for Detroit), Voltron, The Crumple Zone, The Silver Crush, Three Men and Cliff Avril, The Ford F-1150 (the combined weight of the four players), and the Henry IIs (as they are the Lions in Winter).
My favorites are the Fearsome Fordsome and the Arsenal of Democracy, but they’re all excellent and clever. Great stuff as usual, Football Outsiders.
