To be fair to Shane Lechler, tackling isn’t really considered a priority in his job duties. One could even say that it’s admirable that Lechler was willing to put his body on the line to try and drop Dexter McCluster to the turf.
Still, if you’re going to try and RKO a guy, at least make sure that he goes down. On this play, Shane seemingly tries to flip McCluster and McCluster shrugs off the punter like an old backpack. Making the play all the more embarrassing for Lechler is the fact that he has 67 pounds on McCluster and that the play was already ruled dead. Yes, Lechler’s shame was all for naught.
