One of the more bizarre off-season NBA stories involved a confrontation between Matt Barnes, now a member of the Memphis Grizzlies, and former teammate (and current New York Knicks head coach) Derek Fisher. If you recall, Barnes and Fisher had it out at the home of Barnes’ ex-wife, Gloria Govan, during a break in the preseason schedule. We don’t have time to rehash all the events, but here’s a good link to get caught up.
Fast forward to Thursday night, when Barnes’ Grizzlies played the Indiana Pacers in the second game of the season for both teams. Late in the third quarter, Barnes stepped up to the free throw line where he was greeted by a smattering of “Der-ek Fish-er” chants, in reference to the highly publicized incident.
It wasn’t a lot of fans, and it’s kind of hard to hear, but it was loud enough for arena microphones to pick up.
