On Tuesday, the San Diego Chargers took to various Payless ShoeSource stores to hold its 27th Annual Shoe Distribution. Aimed at providing new shoes to kids in San Diego County, the partnership between the Chargers and Payless managed to give away over 1,000 new shoes to San Diego youth.
Chargers’ spokeswoman Jennifer Rojas said the team helped to give away more than 1,200 pairs of shoes this year. That’s 200 more than last year.
According to the Chargers website, this year’s Shoe Distribution was the biggest one yet, as the team added a fifth Payless store to its event.
Wide receiver Keenan Allen found the day to be incredibly rewarding.
“This always feels good to see these kids get new shoes. When I was a kid, it was amazing to get new shoes. I wore them as soon as I would get them and wore them out. To see that same look in their eyes is what makes this so rewarding.”
The Chargers also posted a Vine of its players helping kids pick out kicks. It perfectly encapsulates how amazing and cute the Annual Shoe Distribution is in about six seconds of video.
It’s always great to go back to school with some fresh sneakers and it’s heartwarming to see that the Chargers shoe program is thriving in its 27th year.
