During a California high school football game between Concord High and Oakland, Concord surprised their opponents by pulling out the old “hidden ball” trick during a kick off.
Concord’s Darion Smith received the kickoff, and he was promptly surrounded by his teammates in a huddle. The teammates then scattered in different directions and by the time that Oakland figured out that LeAndre Jones had the ball in his hands, it was too late.
It’s hard to fault Oakland for sleeping a bit on the play. According to Concord assistant coach Manny Chavez, the team isn’t well-known for its special teams play.
“[The] funny thing is Concord is considered one of those anti-special teams schools because we don’t kick field goals, PATs.”
As for the rest of the game, Concord would go on to win the contest against Oakland pretty handily by a score of 56-6.
