After a very long wait, Alabama’s Heisman Trophy winner, Mark Ingram was finally chosen by The New Orleans Saints (who traded picks with the New England Patriots) with the 28th pick in the draft. Ingram set Alabama’s single-season rushing record as a sophomore in 2009, rushing for 1,658 yards while helping lead the Crimson Tide to the national title. You could sense the relief as Ingram took the stage and was interviewed by ESPN’s Suzy Kolber.
Suzy pulled out a letter which Mark’s father had sent her to read after Mark had been picked. Mark’s father, former Giants receiver Mark Ingram Sr, is currently in a Texas prison serving time for money laundering and bank fraud. He had two years tacked onto his sentence when he failed to begin serving time to watch his son play. Understandably while reading the letter Mark became very emotional, began crying, and he spoke to the camera with a ‘We Did It Man.’ Easily the best moment on draft day one. Check it out below.
