The line between rapper’s persona and his lyrics are sometimes blurred and the comedic duo of Key & Peele really took the opportunity to lampoon that dynamic in their new skit, “Rap Album Confessions”.
As great as Key’s increasingly frustrated cop is in the sketch, it’s Peele’s “multi-platinum selling rapper Gun Rack who steals the show with his Red Lobster alibi and his professed ignorance as to what a “long ass gun” is.
“I would call it a gun. Of the long ass variety. Some seaweed in there too.”
Of course, considering that Gun Rack’s lyrics state that he killed Darnell with a 9mm, the fact that he was presented with what looks like a revolver in the interrogation room means that he’s either innocent or he took a small artistic liberty when writing his song. Either way, Key’s evidence looks rather shaky.
Yes, I spent way too much time watching this skit.
