Petaluma, California is about 600 walking miles from San Diego, a distance that would take between 175-200 hours to complete, but it’s a distance worth every step and minute for Kevin Doyle. Doyle lost his wife, Eileen, in 2012 to pancreatic cancer, and shortly thereafter started a charity, Eileen’s Little Angels, to raise funds for children battling pediatric cancer.
This year Doyle elected for an awareness and fundraising campaign that could both honor his late wife and hopefully raise serious cash for his organization. He walked from Petaluma to San Diego for Comic-Con…while dressed in a full storm trooper costume. Doyle explains their love for Star Wars and additional details behind his efforts on the walk’s Facebook page
Eileen and I both shared a passion for Star Wars and are members of the world-wide costuming organization the 501st Legion and as a member I regularly participate in charitable events, fund-raising and various walks. This time I will be walking in Eileen’s memory. With the money raised I will be able to create such things as a coloring book, bandana’s, a blanket and plush toys…all featuring Eileen’s artwork. It is my hope that this walk will help me to heal and give my life purpose by sharing Eileen’s spirit through her artwork with children battling cancer and put a little sunshine into their lives.
