We could point to a heap of dates that crafted Jose Canseco’s bizarre career and while all of those moments contributed to him becoming one of the most controversial sports figures of all-time, only one contributed to the most hilarious home run in baseball history.
On May 26, 1993, the 28-year-old Texas Rangers slugger dished out an incredible home run assist to Indians outfielder Carlos Martinez. The little-known Cleveland player smacked a fly ball to the track in right field, forcing Canseco to retreat in attempting to take an extra base hit away from Martinez. However, instead of recording an out or even just botching the play and allowing Martinez to reach on a double, or maybe triple, Canseco somehow gave up a home run on a ball that was at least five or six feet short of the fence.
