Darrelle Revis may have helped the New England Patriots win a Super Bowl last season but he doesn’t seem too keen on defending his former team or Tom Brady over Deflategate.
Revis spoke with the New York Daily News about Deflategate and the Jets cornerback wasn’t shocked that the Patriots received a harsh penalty (a record $1 million fine and a loss of a first round draft pick in 2016 and a fourth round draft pick in 2017) given the team’s past transgressions.
“New England’s been doing stuff in the past and getting in trouble,” Revis said. “When stuff repeatedly happens, then that’s it. I don’t know what else to tell you. Stuff repeatedly happened through the years. You got SpyGate, you got this and that and everything else. Obviously in those situations in the past, they had the evidence. So they did what they needed to do.”
As for Tom Brady, Revis wasn’t very sympathetic towards Brady’s reputation being sullied by Deflategate:
“If I fail a drug test, then I fail a drug test. If I get a DUI, I get a DUI,” Revis said. “If Tom gets caught with a DUI, it’s a DUI. …. If they are saying that he did what he’s done, then the suspension is the suspension.”
And while former teammates like Vince Wilfork and even other teams’ players like Colin Kaepernick have spoken out in support of Brady, Revis was decidedly less willing to be a Brady backer:
“I don’t know,” he said. “I don’t care. It doesn’t matter. If people want to judge him as a cheater, that’s their opinion.”
The Jets play the Patriots at New England on October 25th and it should make for a very interesting and drama-filled game. If Brady’s suspension isn’t reduced, the Jets game will be his first home game of the season. And who better to welcome Brady back to Foxborough than the New York Jets and Darrelle Revis?
