Anthony Davis is easily one of the most dominant forces in the NBA — on offense, but even more so defense. Former Pelicans coach Monty Williams did the best job he could designing a functional defense around Davis, who averaged 3.0 blocks and 1.4 steals, but he could only get his team’s defensive efficiency up to 22nd in the league.
Now, imagine if the New Orleans front office was able to pair Davis with Tom Thibodeau, the coach that revolutionized the modern NBA defense.
Monty Williams, the former Pelicans head coach, was recently fired after failing to meet expectations despite making it to the first round of the playoffs — losing in a sweep to the Golden State Warriors. But Pelicans General Manager, Dell Demps, is already looking for his replacement, and Thibodeau is reported to be the frontrunner.
Just imagine if Davis were actually paired with a top-tier NBA coach to reach his full potential. We could be seeing a whole lot more of this and the Pelicans this time next season.
