The fine folks at Twitter have come up with their own unique way to predict the NBA playoffs.
Rather than, say, trying to analyze the actual matches themselves, Twitter ran an analysis on Tweets that used “a team-related keyword alongside a ‘winning’ related keyword from Jan. 16 to April 15” and then compared each of the results in head-to-head match ups using the NBA playoff bracket as a guide.
While that may seem like it could lead to disaster because Twitter is not exactly known for its depth and analytical nuance, the resulting bracket that Twitter came up with looks fairly reasonable.
Sure, one could quibble over the fact that the NBA Finals winner is not the Golden State Warriors (how an analysis of the keyword “winning” didn’t have the team with the most wins running away with the results is surprising to say the least) but the Cleveland Cavaliers are no slouches so perhaps our collective Twitter hive mind isn’t terrible when it comes to predicting sports.
