Andrelton Simmons had one of the best defensive plays of last season when he snagged a ball in the hole between shortstop and third base and managed to make an incredibly difficult off-balance throw to gun out the Mets’ Travis d’Arnaud at first base.
On Friday night, d’Arnaud fell victim to Simmons’ defensive prowess and incredible arm once again on a nearly identical play in Atlanta. Perhaps the most bizarre part of the whole thing is that the Braves broadcast had JUST finished flashing back to last year’s play prior to Simmons pulling it off for a second time.
As for d’Arnaud, he’s probably going to want to avoid hitting the ball on the ground to the left side whenever he plays the Braves. There’s only so many times before a play like that will break a man.
