Michael Jordan’s highly-coveted game-worn Nike Air Ship 1s that he wore during his rookie season are going up for auction today.
While the Air Jordan 1 is the most widely-celebrated basketball shoe in sneaker history, it was actually the Air Ship that got Nike in trouble with the NBA and led to the infamous letter which threatened to fine Jordan each time he wore the black-red colorway of the Air Ship (not the Air Jordan 1 as Nike would would insinuate in one of its most famous commercials).
The Air Ship that is up for auction is considered to be the earliest pair of professional game-worn Michael Jordan sneakers ever to be put up for auction.
ShoeZeum was able to get its hand on the sneakers and they gave an incredible run-down on the game-worn Air Ships and how they differed from Jordan’s game-worn Air Jordan 1s.
If you have eleven minutes and love sneaker history, this is well worth your time.
