In case you missed it yesterday, the city of Seattle turned into a traffic hellscape, as a semi truck — carrying a load of salmon, of course — tipped over at the south end of of SR-99, causing a 9-hour closure of the “this-is-definitely-falling-over-in-an-earthquake” Alaskan Way Viaduct. Thanks to a few other rush hour accidents (and because Seattle is second only to Los Angeles in lack of transportation options) approximately 8 trillion cars spilled out into the streets of Downtown Seattle.
Compounding the problem was the fact Seattle Sounders FC had a 7 pm kick-off at CenturyLink Field, which is practically a stone’s throw away from where the overturned truck lay on its side. The Sounders were kind enough to move the start time of Tuesday’s friendly back about 20 minutes (gee, thanks!) so people could actually get to the game (very few did). Included in that group of people trying to make the game were Sounders players themselves. According to one fan, Sounders FC goalie Stefan Frei was spotted sprinting down 2nd Avenue towards the stadium.

Considering the truck tipped over about five hours before the game started, he’s probably not the only Sounders player who ended up hoofing it to the game — a friendly against Club Tijuana, the first place team in Liga MX. The game ended in a 2-2 tie.
