Minnesota is one of the best states in America in terms of producing hockey players, which means that Minny’s high school state tournament features some serious young talent annually. Some of that talent was already on display during the first day of the tourney Thursday when Lakeville North senior Jack Poehling scored on an amazing individual effort against Hill-Murray.
Poehling won a second period faceoff to himself and carried the puck into the offensive zone, dangling around Hill-Murray defenders before beating the netminder with a nice backhander. The awesome display was good for one of Poehling’s two goals on the day, helping push Lakeville North to a 4-1 victory and sending them on to the semifinals.
If anybody ever tries to tell you that you can’t do everything yourself, just tell them about Jack Poehling.
