This week’s Wednesday Night Rivalry matchup between the Penguins and Capitals got off to a fiery start in Washington when players from both teams engaged in a heated brawl along (and inside) the Penguins bench early in the first period.
The melee started when a few players – including Washington’s Tom Wilson – got tied up along the Pittsburgh bench and kept tussling until refs were forced to halt play. Wilson was dragged into the bench area, where he was determined to wreak some havoc. It wasn’t long before everyone on the ice skated over to join in on the action and there were several punches and headlocks to go around.
When all was said and done, four roughing minors – two to each team – were handed out and play resumed at even strength. Hockey, dude.
