The Chinese Basketball Association can make any NBA washout look like Michael Jordan. Just take a look at the league’s leading scorers. Some dude named Errick McCollum, whose only NBA experience consisted of a Summer League appearance with Denver, is currently on top of the leader board, averaging 38.1 points per game. Hell, even Andray Blatche is averaging 30.4 points per game. The rest of the Top 20 is comprised of some familiar names as well: Jordan Crawford, Yi Jianlian, Von Wafer, and the immortal Quincy Douby. Also on the list: Michael Beasley. The former #2 overall pick now plies his trade over in China after short stints with the Heat (twice), Timberwolves and Suns. He’s averaging 29 and 10 playing for the Shanghai Sharks, a team owned by Yao Ming.
Beasley’s play landed him a spot in the CBA All-Star Game on Sunday, where he promptly dropped 59 points — a CBA record — on his way to winning the game’s MVP award. While we joke about the CBA a lot (I mean, come on), it’s nice to see players like Beasley still doing their thing.
