The Nike Mag, originally seen being rocked by Marty McFly in Back to the Future II, will be making a return in 2015.
And this time, according to legendary Nike designer Tinker Hatfield, the shoes will have power laces, the self-tying laces which were featured in the film. Hints of the sneaker’s return have been around for a while now. Nike had secured a patent for the power lacing technology back in July and the timing of Nike’s decision to get the patent couldn’t have been more obvious. After all, Back to the Future II partly takes place in the year 2015.
Nike had released the Mag before in 2011, although in extremely limited quantities and without any power lacing. Only 1,500 pairs were made and they were auctioned off with the net proceeds going towards The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
There’s no release date or retail price set for the 2015 model yet. Expect them to be a fairly hard item to get though.
