NHL referee Mike Leggo had a rough night at the office while working the Penguins-Lightning game on Friday night in Pittsburgh. No, Leggo didn’t miss a big call or eat a stray slapper or any of the other occupational hazards that we’ve come to associate with being a hockey official. Instead, Leggo’s rough night was comprised of a whole lot of puke all over the CONSOL Energy Center’s ice.
The ref got very sick in the corner of the arena about halfway through the first period, and there was enough damage done that the game was delayed for several minutes so the ice crew could clean up, which I’m sure they were thrilled about. As for Leggo, he headed off the ice and didn’t return to the game.
Someone might have gone a little too hard while ringing in the new year. Gross.
