Miami Dolphins wide receiver Mike Wallace was not benched during their Week 17 loss to the Jets. He quit. The veteran player did not return to the field following a Charles Clay second quarter touchdown and many assumed he was either hurt or benched. Jeff Darlington of NFL Network discovered why Wallace did not return:
Wallace wasn’t “benched,” according to several sources. It wasn’t initially “coach’s decision.” Wallace told Philbin he didn’t want to play.

After Clay scored with 2:49 left in 1st half, Mike Wallace came off the field and told Joe Philbin he no longer wanted to play in the game.

Many Dolphins teammates were very displeased with Wallace’s actions today. Several tell me they felt like he abandoned them when needed.
