Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was reportedly involved in a car wreck in uptown Charlotte on Tuesday afternoon. According to the Charlotte Observer’s Jonathan Jones, Newton’s pickup truck overturned after colliding with another vehicle on a bridge over a highway.
Newton was put on a stretcher, loaded into an ambulance and taken to a nearby hospital following the accident. We’ll update with more details as they become available.

Update: A police officer has confirmed it was Newton driving the truck, and that he was communicating as he was stretchered off. A witness has reportedly stated that Newton’s truck flipped at least four times before coming to a rest.

CMPD source says no injuries to Cam Newton.He did not want to be transported. Taken to hospital as a precaution.

Update x4: Not so fast. According to the Panthers, Newton has two ‘transverse process fractures,’ which doesn’t sound like a whole lot of fun.
Cam Newton is in fair condition and undergoing tests at Carolinas Medical Center and will remain there overnight for observation.
