Finally the 30-day Kevin Love-Andrew Wiggins waiting period is over on Saturday and we can finally start gushing over the new trio of LeBron-Kyrie-Love while figuring out if the Wolves can finally build a foundation.
According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, that trade is a three-team deal that also involves the Philadelphia 76ers. What does each team receive?
- Cavaliers receive Kevin Love
- Timberwolves receive 2014 No. 1 pick Andrew Wiggins, 2013 No. 1 pick Anthony Bennett, 76ers forward Thaddeus Young and a $4 million trade exception that can used to acquire a new player within one year that will not impact their salary cap
- 76ers receive Cleveland’s 2015 1st round pick (previously Miami’s), Wolves forward Luc Mbah a Moute and guard Alexey Shved
Young will arrive in Minneapolis after seven seasons in Philly where he became a reliable inside player, averaging 17.9 points and 6 rebounds per game in 2014. He has played in less than 74 games only twice in his career and should help alleviate pressure inside with the absence of Love.
The prize of the trade for the Wolves has been and will remain Andrew Wiggins. While he has yet to step on an NBA court, the touted youngster restores long-term hope, albeit minimally for the time being, to a city that hasn’t seen a playoff berth since the Western Conference finals run in 2004, three years before Kevin Garnett was dealt to Boston.
It is expected the three teams will officially announce the deal on Saturday at the conclusion of the 30-day no-trade period for Wiggins.
