Serena Williams attended a karaoke event in New York City on Wednesday and the tennis star took center stage to perform a rousing edition of “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend.”
Williams first told the crowd that she was “really nervous” but it sure didn’t seem that way once she began singing as Williams went for every note with the same ferocity that she attacks on the tennis court.
Serena has called karaoke “my favorite thing” and she’s enough of an expert to know what genres suit her voice:
“I do like 80s, 90s rock because it’s good for my voice,” she said before she performed. “The thing about karaoke is picking a song that works for your voice, that way if you sing like a cat – like I do – you can still sound pretty good.”
Williams is also preparing for the US Open next week but she seems just as confident about performing well at the Open as she did performing on stage Wednesday night.
“I feel good. I feel good. I’m looking forward to it,” she said. “I am going to be relaxed and enjoy myself.”
