The Texas Rangers are in the middle of a bit of a rough patch — they’re 39-59 and are in last place in the AL West. Yup, they’re worse than the Houston Astros. On Saturday, frustrations seemed to boil over for Colby Lewis.
Facing Colby Rasmus at the plate, the Rangers were playing in a shift, meaning most of the left side of the infield was open for Rasmus. Seeing this, Rasmus laid down a bunt and reached first base safety. Good play, right?
Well, Lewis decided he had enough, and gestured over to Rasmus at first place and mouthed something in his direction. After the game, Lewis elaborated on his anger.
I told [Rasmus] I didn’t appreciate it. You’re up by two runs with two outs and you lay down a bunt. I don’t think that’s the way the game should be played.
I felt like you have a situation where there is two outs, you’re up two runs, you have gotten a hit earlier in the game off me, we are playing the shift, and he laid down a bunt basically simply for average.”
So, let’s see. Why is Colby Lewis mad? Colby Lewis is mad because, in a two-run ballgame, Colby Rasmus tried to get on base. Colby Lewis is mad because Colby Rasmus, a baseball player, was trying to raise his batting average. Okay, then.
I have bigger, more important question, however. What are the odds that two dudes named Colby would be facing each other in an MLB game?
Baseball is better for so many reasons.
