A new British Airways product could have been a spoof SNL commercial in the ’80s, but the airline’s new revolutionary Happiness Blanket is actually a worthwhile product.

Airlines are always seeking to improve fliers’ in-flight experience, unless you’re Spirit, and the ability to provide even better personalized and friendly service is the next target for the England-based international service provider.

This magical blanket is accompanied by a bluetooth band worn on the passenger’s head. This band uses microscopic fiber-optic LEDs to transmit brainwaves to the blanket, which then changes color based upon the individual’s mental state.

“People are traveling longer distances, and the ability to get good rest is more important. To be successful, you have to be rested and alert, and what the airlines have found is, people will pay for it,” Henry Harteveldt of Atmosphere Research Group told Business Week.

The new blanket will be tested on select first class passengers and various experimental groups before use on daily flights.
