The side-by-side photos you see above show a hilarious gaff made by an English company tasked with producing commemorative mugs featuring the players on England’s national team at the World Cup. Pictured on the right is English player Chris Smalling, a centre-back who also plays for Manchester United.
On the left is a photo of Smalling’s commemorative mug, except that’s not Smalling’s picture on the mug. That’s President of the United States Barack Obama. Oopsies.
The mistake reportedly falls on a young intern, who was given the responsibility of finding royalty-free photos of the players for use on the mugs. He apparently does not know what Chris Smalling and/or Barack Obama looks like.
The bad news is that intern likely will never be trusted with any task at the company ever again. The good news, however, is that if you’ve ever dreamed of owning a mug featuring England soccer star Barack Obama today is your lucky day.
