In an event reminiscent of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory the British Royal Family have sent out the 1900 invites to the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. Apparently not on the list are Barack and Michelle Obama. Who got the nod instead of the Obamas?
Royal officials have confirmed that 1,000 guests are friends and family, 50 will be members of Britain’s royal family, and 40 will be foreign royalty.
There will be 200 guests from the British government, parliament and diplomatic service, 80 guests from charities William is involved in, 30 people from the armed forces, and 60 senior government figures from Commonwealth countries.
It would be ok to think of being replaced by 1900 close friends of the royal family but reports indicate that the Queen personally invited 40 heads of state from around the world. Let’s take a moment to list 40 countries might have made the list ahead of the Obamas. I’ll give you some commonwealth freebies: Australia, New Zealand, Canada…
Taking a moment to think of more…
Another moment thinking…
Right about the time I got to “well, Pakistan was a British colony so I suppose…” I realized I was still about 20 countries short and just started shaking my head.
On the positive side the Brits confirmed they will not negotiate with terrorists by sending only regrets to the teenage lunatic who has been on a nine-day hunger strike at the British Embassy in Mexico City looking for an invite.
Oh, and I can’t blame them for inviting the king of Saudi Arabia, you know he’s good for an expensive gift.
