I don’t think Britney Spears has ever been accused of being the biggest hockey fan in the world but, still, the tweet she sent out on Tuesday afternoon was a bit of a head-scratcher.
With the Los Angeles Kings currently holding a 3-0 series lead over the New York Rangers, Britney decided it’d be a great time to show her support for the team by tweeting out a photo. She chose to do so by posing with a guy wearing a Wayne Gretzky jersey…not a bad choice considering he’s one of the best players to ever don a Kings jersey.
Except the jersey in question was a #99 Oilers jersey, not a Kings one.
Absolutely loving me some hockey right now! #Gretzky #ForeverAKing #GoKings pic.twitter.com/Kya3OJw81R

Oilers fans can’t really be feeling too happy about that. It’s weird to dub Gretzky “Forever A King” when he won four Stanley Cups and eight consecutive Hart trophies with Edmonton. Oilers fans may never get over the trade that sent Wayne to Los Angeles, so Britney is just throwing salt in the wound here.
But Gretzky still played for the Kings…so the picture and caption kind of make sense, right? Yeah, I guess…but Gretzky also played for the Rangers so, you know, not really.
