Dan GilbertGod may hate Cleveland sports teams, but whoever is running things in God’s NBA office sure loves the Cavaliers — at least when it comes to blessing them with top lottery picks.

Unfortunately, what they choose to do with those picks is another thing entirely. Aside from striking it rich with Kyrie Irving three years ago, their drafting track record is a bit, um, spotty, to say the least. First, there’s Dion Waiters, who doesn’t even get along with Irving. Then, there’s Tristan Thompson, who is still finding his footing. Finally, there’s surprise #1 overall pick from last season, Anthony Bennett, whose conditioning was so bad he recently underwent off-season surgery to improve his breathing.

As a reward for their lottery failures, the Cavaliers — with their 1.7% chance at the top pick — struck lottery gold for the second consecutive year, in a draft that is quite a bit deeper than last’s year barren wasteland of talent. Not even Dan Gilbert can screw this up, right? Right???
