The New York Knicks announced this afternoon that they have signed troubled forward Lamar Odom for the remainder of the season (which, may we remind you, will be over in a matter of hours). It’d be easy to crack jokes about the Knicks signing someone who isn’t going to play in tonight’s season finale, but the Knicks are thinking long-term, as the pickup allows the Knicks first crack at re-signing Odom for next season. Odom is scheduled to begin working out Thursday at the team’s facilities.
The Knicks’ roster is going to need a major overhaul during the off-season after they dropped from 54 wins and a #2 seed to missing the playoffs this season — and some will view the pickup of Odom as a risky proposition. But reuniting with his former coach, Phil Jackson, can’t be a bad thing.
