It was announced today that CBS has scored the rights to Thursday Night Football games next season, securing eight early season primetime weekday games for the network. Those games will be simulcast on NFL Network as well.
The other six TNF games (and two Saturday night games) in the latter half of the season will remain on NFL Network, but all 16 telecasts will be produced by CBS and include CBS analysts and hosts.
Jim Nantz and Phil Simms will be the commentary team for each matchup, meaning we no longer have to suffer through Mike Mayock’s “colorful” analysis every Thursday. That alone is worth a monumental celebration.
