The Associated Press are reporting that a “Back to the Future” musical will be hitting London’s West End late 2015, coinciding with the movie’s 30th anniversary. The musical will be directed by Robert Zemeckis, who directed all of the “Back to the Future” movies, “Who Framed Roger Rabbit,” “Forrest Gump,” and more recently, “Flight.”
Along with the musical, there will also be a book written by Zemeckis, Bob Gale and Jamie Lloyd. In a statement released this morning, Lloyd said “The production will include illusions, skateboarding and many other surprises that will capture the spirit of the film but freshly interpret it for a new audience.”
If the musical does well, there is a chance it could head to Broadway. Imagine going to see a Broadway musical and two of your choices are “Back to the Future” or the Tupac musical? I mean, I’m not complaining because I’d see both.
A few things I hope this “Back to the Future” musical accomplishes: a) remake of the DeLorean b) new music from Huey Lewis and the News c) real hoverboards because this won’t cut it! Make it happen Zemeckis!
