Bill Russell is in Boston this week to celebrate the long-overdue unveiling of a statue erected in his honor. The statue remained hidden under a tent before Friday’s unveiling ceremony at City Hall, and out of the public’s view — save for a handful of Very Important People. One of those important people was President Barack Obama, who was last seen with Russell in 2010, draping a Presidential Medal of Freedom around the Hall of Famer’s neck.
President Obama stopped by City Hall on Wednesday for a special sneak preview, and shared a touching moment with the NBA legend.
