The Colorado Buffaloes have lost a number of key players to the transfer portal this offseason. But on Wednesday, they lost one player who committed to the program before he ever even played a snap for the Buffaloes.

Colorado and head coach Deion Sanders have already lost starting right tackle Savion Washington and 2023 five-star cornerback recruit Cormani McClain amongst many other key contributors to the portal. In total, 12 players have entered the portal from Colorado this month alone.

An unexpected name can now be added to that list, as Colorado transfer portal commit Chamon Metayer has decided to reverse course on his decision. Metayer, who committed to the program back in January, will now be re-entering the transfer portal according to Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports.

On the surface, it’s a pretty significant loss. Metayer recorded five receiving touchdowns for the Cincinnati Bearcats last season, and he was ranked the No. 5 tight end in the transfer portal upon entering the portal originally back in December.

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders inspired a bit of confidence this past season with their hot start to the season. But now, it certainly seems like things may be starting to go downhill quickly with how many players are leaving the program in the transfer portal.

Only time will tell whether Sanders and Colorado will be able to fill all of these voids from the departures to the portal. But at the moment, it certainly doesn’t look great for Colorado fans.
