Friday night’s Women’s Final Four showdown between the UConn Huskies and the Iowa Hawkeyes came to a controversial end after an illegal screen call on UConn forward Aaliyah Edwards took the ball away from the Huskies in the closing seconds of the game. It was a crucial call in a crucial moment, and legendary UConn Huskies head coach Geno Auriemma offered his reaction after the game.
In his postgame press conference, Geno Auriemma pointed out that while it may have been an illegal screen those sorts of plays go uncalled very often, and none of them were called against Iowa in the game.
“There’s probably an illegal screen call that you could make on every single possession,” Auriemma said after the game according to On3. “I just know there were three or four of them called on us and I don’t think there were any called on them. So I guess we just gotta get better on not setting illegal screens.”
The Hawkeyes went on to win the game and earn a spot in the national championship game for the second consecutive season while the Huskies will look to bounce back and try to make a run at a title next season.
