Pop culture icon and WWE personality Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson famously shared his public backing for Joe Biden during his presidential campaign in 2020. But now, it seems like his tune has completely changed on the current president as Biden looks toward re-election in 2024.
Johnson recently appeared on the Will Cain Show on Fox News, detailing that he is not currently happy with the landscape of the country, and that he will not endorse Biden again in the 2024 election.
“Am I happy with the state of America right now? Well, that answer is no,” Johnson told Cain transcribed by TMZ. “Do I believe we’re gonna get better? I believe in that. I’m an optimistic guy, and I believe we can get better. The endorsement that I made years ago with Biden was one I thought was the best decision for me at that time. And I thought back then when we talked about I’m in this position where I have some influence, and it’s my job then, I felt like that then, it’s my job now to exercise my influence and share. This is who I’m gonna endorse. Am I gonna do that again this year? The answer is no.”
When asked about his reasoning for taking back his support of Biden, Johnson claimed that Biden has further divided the country instead of unifying it as he had hoped.
“What I realized, and I didn’t realize it back then,” The Rock said, “What that caused back then was something that tears me up in my guts, back then, and now, which is division. And that got me.”
This may not seem like a huge deal for the Biden campaign on the surface. But some like Johnson does have a ton of influence on the average American, largely because he is involved in a lot of different industries and is typically beloved by most.
Only time will tell whether this public statement from Johnson actually harms Biden’s campaign. But it certainly can’t help matters.
