Bronny James The Montgomery Advertiser

Earlier this week, news broke that Bronny James, the son of NBA megastar LeBron James, was entering the NCAA transfer portal with the intent to leave the USC Trojans. But it sounds like he’s also going to consider leaving college basketball altogether.

According to a report from NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic, Bronny James is declaring for the 2024 NBA Draft, but he will also keep his options open regarding a potential return to college basketball.

“USC freshman Bronny James is declaring for the 2024 NBA Draft. James, 19, also is entering NCAA transfer portal to maintain flexibility. The combo guard will work out for and visit NBA teams and make a draft decision based on evaluation,” Charania said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Several years ago, the NCAA changed its rules to allow players to go through the NBA Draft process while maintaining their college eligibility, allowing players to get evaluations from NBA teams and still return to college based on that evaluation. That is what Bronny will be doing this year.

We’ll have to see whether Bronny chooses to stay in the NBA Draft pool and potentially join his father or return to college basketball for another season.
