The Kansas City Chiefs were banking on a sales tax to help fund their planned renovations to Arrowhead Stadium. But after the city rejected that sales tax, the Chiefs now face a pretty brutal situation.
As NFL insider and analyst Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk points out, the failed vote puts the Chiefs in a pretty brutal situation going forward as they will now have to decide what to do once their lease at Arrowhead Stadium expires after the 2030 season.
“Will they come up with another way to pay for the renovations? Will they try to build in a new location near Kansas City? Will they try to get public money without a proposal tied to the Royals? Or will they entertain offers from another city that is both willing to come up with the cash — and able to do so without asking for permission from the voters?” Florio wrote for Pro Football Talk.
Florio goes on to indicate that it will simply be a business decision from team owner Clark Hunt when it comes to
“Moving forward, it comes down to what Clark Hunt chooses to do, and what he’s able to do. Some owners can afford to build their own stadiums. Some owners who are faced with that reality will explore options that include opportunities to generate the revenue that will make it a good investment,” Florio wrote
