Arch Manning will be heading into his second season of college football with the Texas Longhorns this upcoming season. And even though he will still be the backup quarterback to starter Quinn Ewers, that doesn’t mean that he can’t make a significant jump in terms of his development and comfort.

During a recent interview, Texas Longhorns starting quarterback Quinn Ewers gave some insight in the type of growth that he is expecting to see from Arch Manning as he moves into his second season of college football after his true freshman season last year.

“Year 2, you always see a big jump with quarterbacks in this offense,” Ewers said. “You’re just so much more comfortable and your confidence just goes through the roof.”

Had Manning decided to enter the transfer portal following his first season with the Longhorns, he would have been one of the most highly-coveted players available. However, he chose to remain with Texas, even though he would not be the team’s starter.

The good news for Manning is that he did move up one place on the depth chart after former backup quarterback Maalik Murphy opted to transfer from the program this offseason.

We’ll have to see how the season goes for Manning.
