The Arizona Cardinals have made it very clear this offseason that Kyler Murray is their franchise quarterback and the team has no intentions of going a different direction anytime in the foreseeable future. But that didn’t stop the team from bringing in a new veteran quarterback on Thursday.

According to a report from NFL insider Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the Arizona Cardinals acquired veteran quarterback Desmond Ridder in a trade with the Atlanta Falcons.

“Trade! The #Cardinals are trading WR Rondale Moore to the #Falcons for QB Desmond Ridder, per source,” Pelisser said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Obviously, this is a pretty significant move even if Ridder is not expected to be the team’s starting quarterback, and the NFL world had a lot to say about it on social media as a result.

Though he is clearly not expected to be the starting quarterback for the Cardinals this upcoming season with Murray holding that role, Ridder will be a veteran backup with plenty of experience as a starter after he served as the starting quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons for the majority of the 2023 NFL season.
