The Denver Broncos may have decided to part ways with Russell Wilson last week, but that doesn’t mean the team is fully rid of all the negative effects of his time with the team. They’re still going to have to deal with his massive contract.

As NFL insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated pointed out on social media this week, the Denver Broncos are now facing $85 million in dead cap space over the next two years for a player that won’t even be on their roster anymore. This is obviously a massive problem, even if the team has a rookie quarterback as their starter.

“Re: @Broncos’ situation … Real damage of the Russell Wilson contract is if they draft a QB in the 1st round, his $85 million in dead money will effectively strip Denver of the rookie-contract advantage for the first 2 years of the new QB’s career. They’re navigating that now,” Breer said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Obviously, this led to a lot of reactions on social media.

We’ll have to see what the Broncos decide to do at the quarterback position given this pretty unfortunate situation they find themselves in.
