The New England Patriots are clearly in need of a new quarterback this offseason after both Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe struggled in the role last season. NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN recently made it clear that expects the team to sign a veteran quarterback this offseason, and there are two players he expects to be the top contenders.

During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Monday, Adam Schefter downplayed the idea that the New England Patriots could be interested in signing Baker Mayfield, suggesting instead that the team could look to sign either Joe Flacco or Jacoby Brissett.

“I’m not going to tell you that New England is into Baker [Mayfield],” Schefter said during the interview. “I could see it, but I think when we’re talking New England the first two names that come to my mind would be Joe Flacco and Jacoby Brissett.”

Schefter pointed out that Flacco played for the Cleveland Browns last season and Brissett played for the Browns the year after, both of whom played under offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt who is now with the New England Patriots.

We’ll have to see whether or not this plays out as Schefter expects it to.
