Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning was heavily linked to both the Texas A&M and Alabama job openings following the 2023 college football season, but he ultimately decided to stay at Oregon. And the reason for that decision is actually pretty simple: he is just happy where he is.
During a recent interview with On3’s J.D. PicKell, Dan Lanning opened up about why he loves the Oregon Ducks program so much and did not want to leave.
“I just love everything about this place,” Lanning said. “It starts with the commitment at the top. We have really great alumni. I really enjoy working with our athletic director Rob Mullens every single day. He’s somebody that I’m able to lean on. I think that we have clear direction in where we’re headed.”
But more than that, Eugene, Oregon has simply become home for Lanning and his family, and he doesn’t want to go anywhere else.
“For me, personally — my family, we enjoy living here,” Lanning said. “I have three boys that we’ve moved a good amount and it’s nice not to move. It’s nice not to pack up boxes again. When you see everything you want in a job and you have a program that you enjoy coaching, players made commitments to, that’s something you want to see through.”
It’s clear that Lanning wants to stay in Oregon for the foreseeable future. And based on the results he’s brought to the program, it seems like the Ducks will be glad to keep him.
