Bill Belichick and Tom Brady David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports

Ahead of the 2020 NFL season, the New England Patriots and head coach Bill Belichick famously parted ways with legendary quarterback Tom Brady. And thanks to an upcoming documentary on the Patriots dynasty, we have some new insight into what exactly went wrong to cause Brady to leave New England.

In an upcoming 10-episode documentary that is aptly titled The Dynasty, Tom Brady called out Bill Belichick as the reason for his decision to leave the New England Patriots as he made it quite clear that the decision was not about money but his outright refusal to play with Belichick any longer.

“Me and coach Belichick, we did what we loved and competed for 20 years together,” Brady said according to Chad Graff of The Athletic. “But I wasn’t going to sign another contract (in New England) even if I wanted to play until (I was) 50. Based on how things had gone, I wasn’t going to sign up for more of it.”

Obviously, this is pretty horrible news about the relationship between Brady and Belichick, and the comments generated a lot of reactions on social media.

Obviously, Belichick and Brady had a lot of success together in New England where they won six Super Bowl championships with Belichick coaching Brady. But it seems like they had a pretty major rift they couldn’t mend, leading to Brady’s departure.
